Why I’m Having My Amalgams Removed

In dentistry, amalgam is an alloy of mercury with various metals used for dental fillings. It commonly consists of mercury (50%), silver (~22-32%), tin (~14%), copper (~8%), and other trace minerals.

I have four amalgams.

So, why have I chosen to get the amalgams out?

Let me start by telling you that when amalgams are removed from a person’s teeth, they can’t just be thrown in the garbage. Nope! The removed amalgams are considered to be an extremely toxic substance and must be dealt with accordingly and under strict protocol. So if these removed amalgams are considered so toxic, then how can they be “ok” in our bodies!?!? They can’t! No way!

The two primary sources of mercury exposure are dental amalgams (mercury-based fillings) and seafood consumption, followed by thimerosal-containing vaccines and mercury pollution from coal-burning power plants. (1)

In 2008, Scandinavian countries banned the use of amalgam fillings for environmental and health reasons. (2)

So what are the possible health risks to people that have amalgams?

In 2001, the US National Health and Nutrition Examination surveyed 31, 000 adults. The study found that the number of amalgam fillings correlated with incidence of cancer, mental conditions, thyroid conditions, neurological issues (including MS), diseases of the respiratory system, and diseases of the eye. YIKES! You see, every time that you grind your teeth when eating or when you drink a carbonated or hot beverage, mercury vapour from your amalgam is emitted. And where does this mercury vapour go? It gets circulated in your body and goes into your organs, tissues, cells, and bloodsteam. UGH!

So every day, mercury vapour is being emitted from your amalgams, which passes easily through your cell membranes, across your blood-brain barrier, and into your central nervous system where it can cause immunological, neurological, and psychological problems. And at the same time, mercury is leaching into your saliva and being swallowed, making its way down your digestive tract where it causes inflammation and damages your immune system. As well, mercury shuts off the ability of your liver and kidneys to move mercury into your gut for elimination. (4)

What are some vapourized mercury poisoning symptoms?

  • anxiety
  • nervousness
  • irritability
  • insomnia
  • chronic headaches
  • muscle twitching
  • weakness
  • loss of memory
  • emotional instability
  • fatigue
  • depression
  • bleeding gums
  • ringing in the ears
  • vertigo, dizziness
  • hearing difficulties
  • allergies
  • anemia
  • night sweats

If you decide to have your amalgams removed, make sure to find a dentist who specializes in the safe removal of amalgams; for you and the environment. I’m getting mine out by Dr. Leyla Emami at Dr. Colson & Associates.

Here is a video of Dr. Colson talking about amalgams:

As Dr. Colson says in the video, it is a personal choice whether or not to have your amalgams removed.  For me, it’s a no brainer ……… mine are comin’ out next week!
